Relative speed at the contact point

A kinematics example: the difference of tangential speeds of belt and brush at the contact point for two direction cases.

Arrow directions on the diagram are physical; they do not depend on the interface language.

Enter both speeds — the result will appear here.

Formulas

Co-directional tangents: v_rel = |v1 − v2|.

Counter-directional tangents: v_rel = v1 + v2.

Example

v1 = 2, v2 = 1.5 m/s: co-directional → 0.5 m/s; counter-directional → 3.5 m/s.

Limits

  • Speeds are assumed constant along the contact arc; real distributions are more complex.
  • Slip and filament deformation are not accounted for.
  • The brush rotation direction relative to the belt decides which case applies on the unit.
Limits: Educational kinematics with explicit formulas, without technological conclusions.
