Dry bulk materials

The conveyor carries dry bulk material: grain, crushed stone, pellets, powders. Some material stays on the belt after discharge and spills along the line.

Diagonal belt and roller: the contact zone where carried-over material settles.

What to check first

  • Abrasiveness of the material: it drives filament wear and the choice of filament material.
  • Particle size and shape: fine dust and coarse lumps behave differently on a brush.
  • Where the cleaning unit sits relative to discharge and the return side of the belt.

Inspection sequence

  1. Inspect the return side and belt edges after stopping and locking out the conveyor.
  2. Mark zones where material accumulates: they show where contact is insufficient.
  3. Measure the belt width and the space available for installing the cleaner.
  4. Record roller speed or belt speed for the kinematic estimates in the tools.

Scenario limits

SituationWhat to consider
Highly abrasive materialFilament wear accelerates; filament material and spare parts are discussed with the manufacturer.
Powdery materialDust calls for attention to unit enclosure and plant maintenance procedures.
Coarse lump materialImpact on the unit: mounting and protection are topics for manufacturer documentation.
