Polypropylene (PP) and polyamide (PA/nylon) are common bristle materials for belt cleaners. The general differences between the materials are well known; the properties of a specific bristle are confirmed only by its manufacturer.

How the materials differ

PP is stiff and light, with moderate heat resistance; it is often used on dry, moderate environments. PA is more elastic and usually tolerates higher temperatures; it is chosen where wear resistance and bristle flexibility matter. Moisture and medium chemistry affect both materials — the unit conditions matter more than the “brand of plastic”.

Choosing without risk

Do not attribute properties to products without a source: request temperature and wear data for the specific bristle as a “condition → suitability” table from the manufacturer. A used bristle is an honest reference: photograph the wear and attach a sample to the request.
